A whole different way to experience Game Driving
Explore the bush at night in Lake Manyara. A whole new world of animal species await you on a night Game Drive. It gives you a very different perspective of the park and wildlife.
The Lake Manyara Eco System
Lake Manyara is the ideal location for a night Game Drive in Tanzania because of its many ecosystems. It is said to have 11 different systems thanks to the lake, rift valley cliffs, groundwater forest, Ngorongoro highlands, and dry Tarangire system all close by.
The Nocturnal Lake Manyara Wildlife
Manyara National Park has a reliable water supply all yea round meaning animals here are in prime condition. Less seen animals are generally active at night and Manyara is full of them. Porcupines, Genets, Civet Cats are frequent visitors. Hippos are largely nocturnal and it is likely you’ll see many of these beasts grazing on the side of the road.
Lake Manyara is well known for its population of Leopards and although they are elusive cats, they are spotted here on a regular basis. Lion sightings are more common as where ever they’ve been spotted sleeping in the day, at night they are almost always active.
Your drive starts around 8pm where you’ll travel to the thick ground-water forest of Lake Manyara. From the forest you head towards to lake following the Simba River to the hippo pools. You will return to the forest and finally back to the park gate around 10.30pm.
